THE LOCATION

Neochori of Western Mani, location "Gonatsa" (Peloponnese, Greece)

The headquarters of KALLIERGON syn is located on an idyllic slope at the foot of Taygetus Mountain, in the area known as "Gonatsa" in Neochori, Western Mani. The place name "Gonatsa" is likely related to one of the dialects of the Slavs who settled in Western Mani during the Middle Ages. These dialects often included words associated with the landscape, agriculture, and everyday life. A possible connection could stem from the root "ґон," which in some Slavic languages may relate to concepts such as "movement" or "meeting." Gonatsa... in other words, "meeting place"!

The location is situated at an elevation of 245 meters and covers an area of 6,000 m², offering panoramic views of the Messinian Gulf and the imposing, pyramidal ridges of Taygetus. It is just three kilometers from the junction of the provincial road Kalamata-Areopoli, near Stoupa. Its privileged location ensures protection from mountain winds and sea humidity. For its energy needs, it is powered by alternative sources of green, renewable energy.

The KALLIERGON syn -with a broad perspective and objectives- has been primarily active so far in off-site operations. Its operational framework involves providing services for innovative actions related to the exchange and dissemination of cultural elements, science, environmental and social issues, and more, through collaborations within and outside Greece.
